Driver Hits Jogger

A jogger went to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries Monday morning after being struck by a car on Lighthouse Road.

The incident occurred between 10 and 10:30 a.m. Here’s what happened, according to top East Shore cop Lt. Vincent Anastasio:

The jogger was headed away from Lighthouse Park toward Ocean View Street. She had headphones on. She weaved into traffic, where a car driven by an elderly woman from West Haven struck her.

The driver fled the scene. Officers caught up with her car, and with her, nearby on Lighthouse Road. She had a valid license, but her car was unregistered. She was cited for fleeing the scene, misuse of plates, and operating an unregistered vehicle.

The ages of the jogger and driver were not immediately available.

The jogger was treated for minor head and leg injuries, then released from the hospital, Anastasio said. She received a verbal warning for reckless use of the roadway.
