The Dwight Central Management Team is offering a $500 scholarship for high school seniors in the area who plan to go to college.

The management team is holding the DeBorah Davis Book Scholarship contest for students in the Dwight, West River or Whalley/Edgewood/Beaver Hill neighborhoods who can prove their acceptance to an accredited college, university or vocational school.

DeBorah Davis (pictured above) was a Dwight community activist and worker who advocated for youth to have educational, employment and volunteer experiences which would improve their lives and help them to become productive citizens in the future.

Students who wish to apply for the money must submit an essay about community service performed on behalf of a school, church, other civic organization, family or friend. The essay must include the name and address of the organization or reference information for the individual; the period of time and number of hours of volunteer work done; and the supervisor’s name and contact information.

Applicants must mail the essay by April 15 to the following address:

Dwight Central Management Team P.O. Box 143
New Haven, CT 06501

Winners will be announced at the June 3 management team meeting.
