Exit 44 Changing

Expect delays and closures on I‑95 beginning Tuesday, April 21, as the state reconfigures Exit 44.

The northbound ramp will be modified. The southbound loop ramp will be eliminated.

Following are details of the closures and the work, from the Department of Transportation:

Routing from the I‑95 Northbound Exit 44 loop ramp to Kimberly Avenue is scheduled to be changed during early morning work on Tuesday, April 21, 2015, between the hours of 1 AM and 6 AM. The new temporary ramp geometry eliminates the existing loop configuration. A signalized intersection at the bottom of the ramp allows for a right turn to Kimberly Avenue or a left turn to Ella T. Grasso Boulevard. 

In addition, the existing I‑95 Southbound Exit 44 loop ramp to Kimberly Avenue will be permanently closed during early morning work on Wednesday, April 22, 2015, between the hours of 12 AM and 5 AM. I‑95 Southbound traffic heading to West Haven will use the new Exit 44 to Ella T. Grasso Boulevard (previously designated Exit 45) and will take a left at the bottom of the ramp and proceed through the newly signalized section of Ella T. Grasso Boulevard extension to access Kimberly Avenue.

LANE CLOSURE INFO
Motorists can expect lane closures on I‑95 Northbound and Southbound between Exit 43 (Campbell Avenue) and Exit 46 (Sargent Drive) in New Haven. Traffic control personnel and signing patterns will be utilized to guide motorists through the work zone.

RAMP CLOSURE AND DETOUR INFORMATION
Temporary ramp closures will be necessary for the execution of the work. Pre-warning of the ramp closures will be displayed on changeable message boards and detour signs will be in place to assist motorists.

April 21, 2015 Detour Info between the hours of 1 AM and 6 AM: Follow signs to Exit 46 (Long Wharf Drive) and at the end of the ramp turn right onto Long Wharf Drive and follow it to Sargent Drive. Turn right on Sargent Drive and follow it to the Exit 46 on-ramp to I‑95 Southbound. Follow I‑95 Southbound to new Exit 44 off-ramp to Ella T. Grasso Boulevard and turn right at bottom of ramp to Kimberly Avenue.

April 22, 2015 Detour Info between the hours of 12 AM and 5 AM: Follow signs to I‑95 Northbound to Exit 46 (Long Wharf Drive) and at the end of the ramp turn right onto Long Wharf Drive and follow it to Sargent Drive. Turn right on Sargent Drive and follow it to the Exit 46 on-ramp to I‑95 Southbound.

Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this vicinity.
