An early-morning electrical fire sent 135 people to area hotels and the warmth of their families Thursday.
City officials along with the Red Cross worked hard to find temporary homes for the residents of Fairbank Apartments in Fair Haven after the electrical fire left their 120-unit building with no electricity and no heat.
Rafael Ramos, deputy director of Housing Code Enforcement, said by about 1:30 p.m. every resident of the building was on their way to a hotel, to a family member’s house, or if they had special needs to a facility where they could stay and receive services.
The fire began before 5 a.m.
No resident was injured but a firefighter was hospitalized after complaining of chest pains, according to this account int he New Haven Register.
