East Rock Fire Tamed

Firefighters saved an East Rock home from burning late Friday night.
The call came in at 10:28 p.m. at 344 Humphrey St., according to the fire union’s website, nhfflocal825.org.
Firefighters from Engine 8, Engine 10, Engine 4, Squad 1, Ladder Truck 3, Emergency 2, and Car 33 responded. Engine 8 “initiated an aggressive attack” with a fire hose to keep the flames contained in the rear of the building, he said. Meanwhile, other fire companies “stretched hose lines to cover each floor,” watching for any flames that might spread to other parts of the home.
Truck 3 “searched and ventilated the house.”
“This coordinated effort resulted in no injures to firefighters or occupants and left minimal damage to the home.”

Thanks NHFD! This is one of a handful of New Haven houses with a slightly asymmetrical facade and it would be a shame to lose it.

Thank you NHFD for saving my house!!!!
You did a great job and were very nice and considerate at the same time. Bob, the fireman who investigated the fire afterward, was very thorough and patient. He stayed very late and made sure the house was safe and secure.

Another great reason to save engine 8! Without this engine being so close to this fire I am certain this house would have burned down. Great job NHFD! Lets continue fighting to keep engine 8 active!

When Engine 8 is taken oiff duty the only close engine to East Rock will be Squad 1. The Squad covers the entire eastern half on the city and is out of the station a lot. Good luck to the people who live in that area. A four to six minute delay means your house and maybe you will be toast. Do what ever you can to save Engine 8 before it is too late.
