Firefighters Rescue Puppy

NHFD

Firefighter Eddie Taylor climbed down into a culvert — and came back up with a puppy.

Taylor (pictured) —who happens to be a professional dog trainer — was one of seven firefighters from Squad 2 and Engine 11 who worked on rescuing the puppy on Cedar Street near 100 Church Street South.

The rescue occurred around 11 p.m. Saturday.

With crew members helping, Taylor slipped some 12 feet down into the culvert, then carried the pooch up a ladder. Crews gave the dog food and water; it seemed malnourished but otherwise OK, firefighters reported. They took the dog to New Haven shelter for evaluation.

Other New Haven firefighters on scene included Tyrone Daluz, George Chin, Lt. Girrard Bellamy, Carlos Alicea, Ernie Oulette, CJ Cordero. Yale cops and firefighters assisted as well.
