The police said they arrested a Bronx man Wednesday after he allegedly arrived at Union Station with 100 wax-paper packets of heroin organized into “ten ten-piece bundles.”
The tactical narcotics unit had a tip he was coming with the cargo.
Officer Derek Gartner (pictured) led the investigation. Police said he admitted to them he had the heroin and handed it over when they questioned him.
Fair Haven Chase: Let’s let police spokesman Officer David Hartman describe a Thursday morning incident in his own words:
“At 12:43 a.m., Officers David Acosta & Edrick Agosto were on the beat in Fair Haven. While in the area of Poplar Street & Saltonstall Avenue, they saw a white Toyota Corolla speeding down the street. The Toyota operator had no use for the stop sign at that intersection.
“They turned on their lights & siren, signaling the speeder to pull over. The Toyota slowed down and stopped, but only long enough for the passenger ... to bail out and take off running. The officers took off after him. [He] led the officers over a twisting path—Saltonstall Avenue, to Ferry Street, to Sanford Street, over fences on Houston street and ending when [the suspect] stopped in a driveway. Agosto ordered him to take his hands out of his pockets several times. At first, he refused, but was eventually persuaded to comply.
“[The suspect, who’s 18 and from New Haven] was arrested and charged with interfering with officers & trespassing in the 3rd degree. He was taken to the detention center at police headquarters. Officer Agosto sought treatment for an injury to his left hand, and was released a short time later, after visiting the Hospital of St. Raphael’s. The Toyota operator didn’t wait for the officers to return, and hadn’t been seen since.”
January Stats: The departments Traffic Unit issued 356 infractions, 56 parking tickets and made 119 arrests in January, according to Sgt. Anthony Santarcangelo,
