Gallery Questions The Authority of Physical Space

Feminist ceramics? Yes, there is such a thing. And you’re looking at an example of it.

What makes it feminist? Find out by visiting a new Yale Art Gallery exhibit in the only place you can find it—blogosphere.
The gallery enlisted four writers to put together “Question Authority,” an online-only collection of pieces on artworks at the gallery which do, or did, just that. You could say that by presenting this exhibit only online, the gallery was questioning authority, too, at least the authority (and limitations) of physical space. The pieces analyzed span the centuries, up to the present.
How to visit this exhibit: Click here. Then press “Launch” under “Question Authority.” You’re now in the lobby, about to enter the exhibit. Do that by clicking on the names of each of the writers at the top. That brings you to a page with pictures; click under each picture to read how authority was questioned. To find the feminist ceramics piece, click on “Maureen Miller” and “Polka-Dot Tea Bowl.”
