The city sent the following release about detours for East-siders hoping to cross the Q.
GRAND AVENUE BRIDGE TO BE CLOSE FOR HEAT RELATED REPAIRS BEGINNING
9:00AM WEDNESDAY JULY 20TH LASTING UNTIL 3:00PM FRIDAY JULY 22ND
(New Haven) – The Grand Avenue Bridge over the Quinnipiac River will
be closed to all traffic beginning at 9:00am Wednesday, July 20th until
3:00pm Friday, July 22nd in order to perform emergency repairs to the
bridge.
Recent high temperatures have caused the expansion of the bridges truss
and forced the intermittent closure of the bridge. Construction will be
done on the 1 inch deck cutback on the swing span on the Front Street
end of the bridge. The repairs will address the swing span issue that
has caused the bridge to close.
The following detours will be posted:
Eastbound Detour
North on Front St. to Middletown Ave. to Quinnipiac Ave. to E. Grand
Avenue.
Westbound Detour
South on Quinnipiac Ave. to E. Ferry St. to Ferry St. (where existing
detour signs lead back to Grand Ave).
