Great Give Nets $1.3M

Your email inbox is about to calm down: The 36-hour charitable marathon known as The Great Give” has ended, with $1.3 million in new money for more local not-for-profits.

More than 7,000 donors made more than 9,600 donations during this year’s event, during which not-for-profits compete to see who can raise the most money and get rewarded with financial prizes. (Click here to read about one Jerry Lewis telethon-like effort in the Valley.) Groups bombarded donors with appeals, many of them through repeated email pitches.

The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven runs the event each year. It and other sponsors gave out $170,000 in matching money and prizes.

Winners this year included:

Music Haven, which won a $15,000 prize for most donors.
Elm City Internationals, which won $10,000 for most new donors.
Greater New Haven Community Chorus, which won $5,000 for most money raised by an all-volunteer organization.
St. Martin de Porres Academy, which won $5,000 for most money raised by an organization with more than five full-time staffers.
LEAP, which won $5,000 for receiving the largest single gift ($50,000).
Neighborhood Music School, which won $5,000 for the most loyal donor base (93 repeat givers).
