A patron at Westville’s Owl’s Nest bar was arrested after he got out a gun and threatened people Monday night, police said.
Here’s what happened, according to police spokesman Officer Joe Avery:
Owl’s Nest employees told police at 9:19 p.m. on Monday that a man had pulled out a black handgun, threatened people in the Tour Avenue bar and then left. They gave police the name of the suspect. Police located his car and stopped him at the corner of Whalley and West Park Avenues. Officers and dogs searched the area, but no gun was found. The man and his wife were arrested for “causing the altercation at the Owl’s Nest.”

In other police news, according to Avery:
A pedestrian was robbed at 10:05 p.m. on Monday at 1423 Quinnipiac Ave. The victim was walking down the street when a silver Buick pulled up. A man got out, put a gun to the victim’s chest, and demanded cash. The mugger made off with $20, a wallet, driver’s license, and bank cards.
A caller on Livingston Street reported to police that there were four gunshots near Wilbur Cross High School on Monday night at 9:34. Police responded to the area and found no evidence.
At 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, two men in a two-door silver Acura Legend with tinted windows and a sunroof pulled up to a cyclist at South Frontage Road and Church Street. They got out of the car and began calling to the cyclist. One had a handgun, the other had a wrench. The cyclist pedaled off and the Acura followed to Cedar Street before heading towards the highway. Police described the incident as a “possible attempted robbery.”
A mugger stole $48 in front of 111 Pine St. at 9:25 a.m. on Sunday. The mugger followed his victim in a car from 284 Clinton Ave. to Pine Street. He then got out of the car, told the victim he had a gun, and demanded money. The victim handed over $48 and the mugger drove off.
Man Gets 5 Years For Child Porn
A 74-year-old New Haven man was sentenced to five years in federal prison, followed by five years of supervised release for possessing child pornography. William Golia of Eastern Street pleaded guilty to the charge on Jan. 7 in U.S. District Court.
The charge stemmed from an Immigration and Customs Enforcement investigation in April 2009. ICE agents searched the Golia’s home and seized a desktop computer, a bag of floppy disks, and a bag of hard drives. The equipment was found to contain over 600 pictures and videos of child pornography.
Package Theft Reported In Westville
A reader on West Rock Avenue wrote in with the following:
“There have been reports of a truck following UPS trucks, and sometimes FedEx trucks, and stealing packages off porches within minutes of them being delivered.
