The Community Action Agency of New Haven is encouraging people not to wait for a shut off notice before seeking help with their heat bills.
Appointments are currently available to obtain heat assistance at CAANH, 419 Whalley Ave., for residents of New Haven, East Haven, West Haven, North Haven and Hamden. Residents may receive heat assistance for electric, gas, oil, propane, wood or pellets. To schedule an appointment call (203) 285‑8018.
The first day for fuel deliveries is Nov. 9. In order to receive certification, applicants must represent the entire household, and bring in the following:
—Social security numbers and dates of birth for all household members
—An active electric and gas bill
—Pay stubs or unemployment covering the last four weeks for every household member
—Current monthly social security, SSI, Veteran or pension benefit verification
—All pages of current bank statements for checking and/or savings
Once applications are approved, individuals using gas as their primary heat source are qualified to receive additional help through CAANH for the Gas Company’s Matching Payment Plan (MPP). MPP clients pay a fixed amount each month, and the Gas Company, Energy Assistance, and the individual each pay a portion of the gas bill. For more information contact Info Line 211.
