Here Came The Sun

P9183688.JPGThe Connecticut Clean Energy Fund visited a synagogue in Westville Tuesday morning to dedicate a new solar installation. Meanwhile, the synagogue’s rabbi has worked with his state representative, Pat Dillon, to make it easier (i.e. cheaper) for other people and organizations throughout the state to install their own solar panels.

The dedication ceremony Tuesday morning took place at Congregation Beth El-Keser Israel to celebrate the 10.5‑kilowatt Solar PV Installation that’s enabling the Harrison Street synagogue to draw on a higher, and cleaner, power to keep warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

Click here to read a previous Independent story on the work of Rabbi Jon-Jay Tilsen and his son Tsvi Benson-Tilsen to raise the money and get the panels installed.

Since then, Rabbi Tilsen suggested to Dillon, who represents Westville at the state legislature, that Connecticut offer tax breaks for not-for-profits as well as homeowners who install photovoltaic systems. She liked the idea and submitted two bills which eventually became law as part of energy legislation passed this session. Click here and here to read the bills.
