Home Invaders Make Off With Intrepid

Two men broke into a house off William Street Tuesday afternoon, tied up the homeowners, then made off with their Grey 2004 Dodge Interpid.

Police are asking anyone who sees the car — with CT license plate 736-YHB — to call detectives at 203 – 946-6304.

The two armed, masked men broke into the first-floor apartment — half of an Osbourne Street duplex, the only house on the tiny street — around 3 p.m, according to Lt. Jeff Hoffman. They tied up the homeowners inside, a man and a woman. The thieves stole some valuable items from the house. Then they grabbed the keys to the Intrepid and sped off.

As of 5:10 p.m. they remained at large. The victims were not injured, according to Hoffman. Police sealed off the crime scene, waiting for the department’s bureau of detectives to arrive to collect evidence.

It was not immediately clear how the police were contacted about the crime.

One neighbor told the Independent she saw a man leave the house with a black duffel bag. She later learned what had happened. She said she saw the victims, who had been tied face down on the bed, shaking and crying afterwards.

The neighbor said she, too, felt shaken by the episode.

I feel like it happened in my house. This is too close. It’s very scary,” she said. This is a quiet neighborhood. Nothing happens here. We leave the doors open.”
