Homicide, Home Invasion Occur On City’s East Side

Police found 18-year-old Javier Martinez lying in the road near Hemingway Avenue and Russell Street shortly before 1 a.m. Saturday. Someone had shot him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have no other details to release at this early stage in the investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call detectives at (203) 946‑6304.

In other crime news, an intruder broke into a Fair Haven home where a 10-year-old girl was alone Friday morning, according to police spokesman Officer David Hartman.

The man blindfolded her and bound her hands before asking her where the money was. The crook made his way through the apartment before making off with over a thousand dollars and a computer,” Hartman reported. Once the perpetrator fled, the girl freed herself and went to an upper-floor apartment, where she told a neighbor what had happened. The neighbor phoned the girl’s parents at approximately 11:30 a.m. The girl’s father arrived at home at approximately 1:00 p.m., then waited nearly four hours before phoning police. The State of Connecticut Department of Children & Families as well as clinical staff from the Yale Child Study Center’s Child Development — Community Policing program have been involved with this case.”
