New Haven’s newest highway bridge teemed with people, food, recumbent bikes, even dogs — but not cars.
At least for day.
The occasion was a party Saturday to mark the completion of the southbound lanes of the expanded, rebuilt I‑95 Pearl Harbor Memorial Bridge. Officials invited the public to check it out on foot. And take lots of selfies. La Voz Hispana’s Hernando Diosa joined the party and took these photos.
Starting today the cars and trucks take over again, to an anticipated 140,000 a day.

Someday will once again see feet, bikes, and maybe even mules and horses on this impressive bridge. Cars will not and cannot last in our peak oil world. We will be lucky to have trains (maybe) and sailboats will very popular.
Anyway I live under this bridge and the totally rampified landscape and am in awe. I have learned to live with the noise and dust while this, our version of the Egyptian pyramids, has been put together.
