A sword-wielding renter apparently thought a state marshal was his landlord—and determined to give him a few slashes rather than overdue rent money.
The incident took place Friday afternoon on Frederick Street in the Beverly Hills section of Upper Westville. Here’s what happened, according to police spokesman Officer David Hartman (who wrote the headline above this article):
State Marshal James Morrissey went to the home on Frederick Street to serve a notice to quit to the 36-year-old renter on behalf of his landlord.
The man opened the door, “screamed he would not give [Morrissey] any money,” then “slammed” it in Morrissey’s face, Hartman reported. After identifying himself as a marshal, Morrissey went to his car. The renter “emerged from the house. This time, he was wielding a sword” and “chased him down the street,” according to Hartman. “The marshal said he dialed 911 while running from the man. He said [the tenant] eventually tired and stopped chasing him. He said [the tenant] returned to the house, where he used the sword to vandalize the marshal’s Ford Explorer.”
Officers arrived to find the man “standing behind the screen door. The officers approached him with their weapons drawn. -The tenant] was screaming at them to holster them. Then he slammed the door shut.” The tenant eventually obeyed an order to come outside, where he was arrested on multiple charges, including “carrying a dangerous weapon.”
Sex Assault On The Green?Meanwhile, officers responded to a complaint involving a possible sexual assault on the Green Sunday.
The incident took place between 5 and 5:30 a.m.. A 51-year-old man told officers that when he came upon a man and woman “having sex on a park bench” on the Green’s southwest quadrant, the male half of the pair “pulled out a knife and threatened to cut his throat,” according to Hartman. The man left and called the cops.
The cops, who confirmed the victim’s account with an acquaintance, showed up to find the male half of the pair hiding a knife on the ground. The man, who’s 52, told the cops he called the complainant a “derogatory” word but never threatened him.
The officers talked to the female half of the pair, too. “She said had been lying down on the grass, when [the man] got on top of her and performed a sexual act while the two remained clothed. She said this lasted for several minutes and that when she told him to stop, he slapped her in the face. The victim told the officers that the victim of the earlier reported threatening was telling the truth,” Hartman reported. Police arrested the man on a variety of assault, threatening, and restraint charges.

Not the first time I have heard of or seen people having sex on the Green.
Sword-wielding of the inorganic and organic varieties.
Can’t make this stuff up.
Did they have an OK from the Proprietors of the Common Ground for their act on the Green?
