It Happened. It Matters

A day in the life sort of thing sounds interesting. But since you can't be everywhere at once, I think it would be better to spread out the story gathering to a week then choose a "best of" sort of thing. There are different rhythms going on depending on the day.

Here's another idea: Start a weekly feature that takes an in-depth look at something topical. For instance a while back there was a very long article on Gar Waterman. That type of thing would be perfect as a weekly spotlight on something.

I think this is a great idea-helps us get to know the corners of our city and our neighbors better. Thanks.

Great ideal there are a lot of untold good stories out there that need to be told. Most of them, you would never hear about if it wasn't for good reporting like the Independent News.

My husband has been an over the road truck driver for 30 yrs. If a trucking company makes you work over the allowed hours by the law over and over again,some have forced dispatched for 20 hours,and the driver's complain to the proper DOT dept.Having proof from him as well as other drivers.DOT gives the driver a hefty fine.The drivers call to complain, about the abuse and they face forced unemployment or no work for days with the company. We should not have the driver's fined. They are not owner operator's who are the boss of where and how their truck runs.Yes,the company gets fined also,but when the ratio money of a fine for the driver is so much more than the trucking company is fined.There is no justice for truckers who are going though this. There are driving companies in our area who constantly get fined for the abuse on drivers.I think there should be a law in place that if a company is fined 20 times in a year,for serious offensives,that company should be forced to close down. What do you think?

Hey, here's a unique idea. Hire some reporters and do some REAL news. Yes, you might have to pay them but what the heck, you are suppose to be a NEWSPAPER aren't you.

I like this. But how often are you going to do it? These stories are not news, after all. If you're going to do this once a week or something, you should make that clear. Otherwise it seems like you guys have nothing better to report on.

I like the innovation, but don't like the format. We have no way of knowing whether these are just brief insights into regular stuff around town or whether they are actual news events, etc. The headings look the same- we can't decipher.
