Job-Seeker Snatches Cash

A man in the middle of a job interview at Buffalo Wild Wings hit upon a quicker way to make some money: Grab cash from the safe and hightail it out of the manager’s office.

Police spokesman Officer David Hartman said that happened early Wednesday morning. Here’s what happened, according to him:

At about 1 a.m., Officer Gene Trotman reported to Buffalo Wild Wings on Church Street on a report of a robbery. The manager told the cop that he had been interviewing an ex-employee about re-hiring him. The manager was in his office with the 43-year-old job applicant when he eyed the open safe,” Hartman said. The man abandoned the interview when he grabbed three bundles of cash from the safe and fled the office. A struggle followed and most of the cash was left behind by the fleeing man.”

Police have applied for a warrant to arrest the man.

In other news, according to Hartman:

The Chips Added Up: At 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Officers Elliot Rosa, Dennis Mastriano, Christopher Cameron reported to Shelton Avenue and Brewster Street on a report of a robbery. Officer Cameron found the victim on Brewster Street. The man told police that he had been followed by a man and two women. He got nervous and walked on to someone’s front porch on Shelton avenue in the hope” that he’d lose the man, Hartman said. The mugger confronted the victim. With his hand in his pocket and gesturing he was holding a gun, [the mugger] told the victim to give up his money,” Hartman said. The mugger went through the victim’s pockets and took two dollars.

The man described his mugger and Officer Cameron went to look for him. He found a man matching the description just a few blocks away, in front of a corner store at 706 Dixwell Ave. The victim came to the store and pointed at the man, exclaiming that he was the guy who had robbed him.

The accused mugger told cops he’d just come from the Taurus Club and hadn’t mugged anyone. He told them he’d never seen the victim before.

The suspect had just come out of the store with exactly $2 worth of snacks. He had six bags of potato chips (25 cents each) on him. The clerk said he’d also purchased a juice (50 cents),” Hartman said. Officer Rosa arrested the man.

Prisoner Escapes: Police are looking for a 21-year-old man who escaped from police custody at Yale-New Haven Hospital. The escapee is a black male who stands about 5’06” tall and weighs about 160 pounds. He has brown eyes and a tattoo of the word Jasmine” on the left side of his chest. He was clad in a black hooded sweatshirt, black denim jeans and white sneakers. He fled onto Park Street through a North Pavillion building exit.”

The man had been picked up on a warrant for burglary, assault, and criminal mischief.

DUI Checkpoint: Hartman announced: On Saturday, June 23, 2012, the New Haven police department will conduct a sobriety checkpoint at State & Wall Streets. The enforcement detail will begins at 6 p.m. and continue until 2 a.m. on Sunday, June 24, 2012.”
