A Friday morning status hearing regarding the proposed sale of the John Slade Ely House (JSEH), the community-anchoring arts institution on Trumbull Street, has been postponed.
The hearing had been scheduled for Friday at 9:30 a.m. in the Branford/North Branford probate court, which convenes at the North Branford town hall.
That appears to be good news for New Haveners hoping to rescue the arts institution, which has been slated to close.
Assistant Attorney General Caitlin Calder said that her office is in talks with Wells Fargo, the fiduciary agent of the Grace Ely Trust, income from which sustains the JSEH.

Those talks, which also now include the city of New Haven and other parties whom Calder characterized as the “stakeholders,” continue.
Although Calder refused to characterize the negotiations, she said they are substantial enough so that the planned status hearing is being postponed at the request of Forgione, as is action on the Attorney General’s motion to stay the proposed sale for 60 days.
Calder said no date for a next meeting has yet been set.
