Richmond Wows New Haven

Attention University of Richmond: Expect to hear an up-and-coming student from New Haven knocking on your door.

That’s the upshot from the latest report from a group of 45 New Haven high-school students who spent their February vacation week on a tour of colleges, sponsored and organized by their employer, the LEAP academic and athletics organization.

Thursday was Virginia day on the tour. Students sent in these photos and write-ups and videos from the trip.

I’d Feel Right At Home

I have many reasons to believe that the University of Richmond is for me; I love everything about it.

Generally, every school has a flaw, and I’m sure that this college has them but I am so in love, I’m willing to overlook the few.

The atmosphere is calm, accepting, and overall curious. Everyone is friendly and warm, and, if not, accepts your presence neutrally. No one looked at me as if I did not belong there, and I loved that.

I love that you upgrade with each year that you come back, in terms of housing: freshmen receive (acceptable) dorms, sophomores to a suite, and juniors and seniors to an on campus townhouse apartment. There’s great transportation, which is important for a safe and large secluded campus. There are many things to get involved in which is a must for me, also.

UR has a 96 percent six-month placement rate after graduation, which is imperative to my future, and on average an 8:1 student to teacher faculty ratio. I need attention as a student; I don’t grasp the ropes easily.

One out of four students are of color, which is important to me, too. I look for diversity, but I like to be around people of my own background as well. The vibe is wonderful and along with the opportunities and unlimited meal plan, I’d feel right at home.

Richmond’s The Top

University of Richmond is arguably the best college we visited thus far on this week-long college trip. The campus is clean and has a beautiful pond in its center. University of Richmond Robins School of Business is one of the best business programs in the country and is ranked 16th in the country among undergraduate programs based on Bloomberg Businessweek. The school of business focuses on entrepreneurship, student management, and investment funds.

The university has one of the best career services in the country (sixth). At the carrier services, they help students build outstanding resumes and conduct mock interviews with students.

There are internships for every major the school offers, and the university has various programs that are designed to help students succeed. Within 6th months of graduation, ninety-six percent of graduates either find jobs or attend grad school. This campus seems fairly diverse, with students coming from 47states and 79 countries around the world.

Virginia State University is a huge college, with state of the art facilities and great ambiance. The cost of tuition is $28,000, but VSU offers students various scholarships to lower their out of pocket costs. Athletic, ROTC, and academic scholarships are rewarded to students who meet eligibility requirements, and have a 2.5 grade point average or higher. I really enjoyed the presentation, and felt that there was a tremendous amount of passion and pride from the staff members and students attending the school. I’m glad I visited this university, and I will consider applying to VSU this spring.
