Data Maven Recognized

Mark Abraham (pictured), executive director of DataHaven, is adding a feather to his cap — an Impact Award” from the Community Indicators Consortium

The award, presented at the group’s recent Washington, D.C. summit, cited Abraham’s cutting-edge approaches to improving community well-being,” in particular, his contributions in developing the Community Index 2013, a comprehensive report that benchmarks the population, economy, health, and civic life of the Greater New Haven metropolitan area.

Priscilla Canny, president of DataHaven’s board of directors, commended Abraham in a Monday afternoon statement for his entrenched commitment to New Haven.

Mark has a unique talent for sifting through volumes of data sources and finding those that are most important to help our community make decisions,” she said.

Abraham also organized the Connecticut Wellbeing Survey, a review of local social indicators” that measure issues such as food insecurity, safety and infrastructure.

According to the statement, both the survey and the community index are undergoing a major expansion. Abraham said that these tools have gained traction with policymakers and researchers, allowing them to understand nationwide issues through a neighborhood lens.

DataHaven, an analysis not-for-profit founded in 1992, collects and organizes public data to develop reports and interactive tools that help advance civic change. Abraham has served as executive director since 2009, and under his supervision, the organization has made strides to connect with other research and not-for-profit agencies in Connecticut to increase access to information about local communities.
