Tom Peterson

The diagonals of light that tell time, as in an Edward Hopper diner, are one of the central subjects of Tom Peterson’s work. Every architectural surface reveals a sundial, where brightness and shadow tick away. There is something here of rendering the past as pure form, with window surfaces reflecting the moment of the photograph back upon itself.

A similar mirror effect duplicates the aftermath of this machine rumble, the participants half-conscious and gasping from the recent impact. Junkyard parking is, we are reminded here, absolutely precise. It color codes the obsolete.
