A 17-year-old New Havener was shot once in the lower back Sunday night and subsequently underwent surgery at Yale-New Haven Hospital, where he is listed in “stable but critical condition.”
Police received the call at 9:44 p.m. about the shooting, which took place at Read and Goodyear streets.
“Witnesses told detectives the victim had been riding his bicycle with a group of friends on Goodyear Street when they crossed paths with several men walking from the opposite direction. The two groups exchanged words and one of those walking pulled out a gun and fired at the group on bicycles,” reported police spokesman Officer David Hartman. He stated that detectives have “several leads.”

A 17 year old is not a man. Other options for your headline include: a minor, a juvenile, a young New Havener, a student, a teenager, an adolescent, a child was shot in our city last night.
And why did we fail to protect him and so many others?
Ohk, according to the witnesses in the above article, someone felt disrespected by another’s words, pulled out a gun, and discharged that deadly weapon into the juvenile’s lower back.
This is depraved heart conduct and frankly, we as a community need to stop this sh*t!
If aliens are observing us, they must have concluded that there is no intelligent life in New Haven, even with Yale her.

@WC10, we need to start treating our 17yr olds as men and not children and then they will be more responsible. Not saying this 17yr old man was responsible for what happened to him.
