Man, 21, Murdered

A 21-year-old man died after someone shot him in his apartment.

It was the city’s first murder in three months.

Police got a 911 call at 2:04 p.m. that someone had been shot at an apartment complex on Warwick Street.

They arrived to find the victim, Isaiah Conyers, in his apartment, with the gunshot wound to his head.

The door was open. He was right behind the door,” said top east side cop Sgt. Vincent Anastasio. He obviously knew who the perpetrator was, because he let him in the door. It’s a locked apartment complex. The front door and the front door are both locked; you have to be buzzed in. He physically walked down the doorway and opened the door for the guy. He came in, and that was it.”

There were other gunshots in the apartment, according to Anastasio.

Conyers was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim’s toddler was present and witnessed the shooting, according to Anastasio. He said police called in the Yale Child Study Center to begin working with the child.

Police were conducting interviews later Tuesday afternoon; they did not have a description of a suspect. Anyone with information is asked to call detectives at (203) 946‑6304.

Conyers had had a Dec. 3 court date scheduled to answer assault and breach of peace charges in connection with an Oct. 30 arrest, according to the state judicial database.

The one-story apartment complex where he lived is owned by 61 Warwick LLC, according to land records. State records list Sohail Elyaszadeh of Great Neck, N.Y., as a member of the LLC.
