Police Thursday evening found a man who’d been shot in the chest while inside a parked car on Chapel Street just west of Ella Grasso Boulevard, across the street from Edgewood Park.
The man, who was 29, was rushed by ambulance to Yale-New Haven Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:09 p.m., about half an hour after police had arrived at the shooting scene, according to police spokesman Officer David Hartman.
Police blocked off traffic and asked people not to enter the park while officers, including a K‑9 patrol, searched it.
The victim was identified as Antoine Heath. His most recent address was listed as being in West Haven; he previously lived for years in New Haven.
The shooting is not believed to have been random. Click here for a story about the victim by the New Haven Register’s Ryan Flynn and Wes Duplantier.
He said police don’t yet have a “reliable” description of the shooter. Police received one report of a person fleeing the scene by foot into the park, another of someone speeding away in a dark-colored sedan. Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call detectives at 203 – 946-6304.
What does this mans criminal record from a decade ago have to do with losing his life? He was know to be a good man and a great father. His kids will now grow up with out a father. His children and finding out who took this mans life should be the primary focus. It is unnecessary to point out something of past that has no relevance to this senseless act of crime. My prayers are with his family and his children who are too young to understand that they will never get to play with their father again.
