Less than two weeks after a 28-year-old was fatally shot at the Church Street South housing projects, police on Monday charged a man with murder.
Police spokesman Officer David Hartman announced that news Tuesday afternoon.
The arrest stems from a Sept. 18 shooting at Church Street South. Police found a man who had been shot inside the “front vestibule” of an apartment in the Malcolm Court section of the housing complex. The man, 28-year-old, Joseph Mirvil was later pronounced dead at Yale New Haven Hospital.
Police investigated the crime and secured an arrest warrant for a 20-year-old man. The found him on Carlisle Street in the Hill and arrested him without incident.
The man is being held on a $1 million bond. Police will hold a press conference on Wednesday morning to discuss the arrest.
The cops responsible for the arrest, according to a police department release, are: Sgt. Tony Reyes, and Detectives Mike Wuchek, Nicole Natale, Bertram Ettienne, David Zaweski. The lead investigator was Detective Elise Tuozzoli.
The latest murder arrest comes on the heels of two arrests last week for fatal crimes. Click here and here to read about those arrests.
