A man died from a gunshot to the back in Newhallville early Saturday morning.
Here’s what happened, according to police spokesman Officer Dave Hartman:
At 2:01 a.m., police responded to Thompson Street near Winchester Avenue on a report of a shooting. They found a 33-year-old Hamden man who had been shot once in the back. He was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2:28 a.m.
Detectives from the department’s Major Crimes and Bureau of Investigation divisions arrived and began investigating.
“The victim had left the Taurus Club minutes before he was shot,” Hartman said. “Witnesses reported an altercation between the victim and two unknown men.”
Police are asking anyone with information or who may have been a witness to this crime to call police at 203 – 946-6304 or 203 – 946-6316 to speak with detectives.
If the city of New Haven could indent the State of Connecticut for the real cost of the Taurus -- police time, crime, and all that -- I doubt they would have renewed their licence.
