A 26-year-old man was fatally shot at a Chapel Street corner store Friday night.
Here’s what happened, according to police spokesman Officer David Hartman:
At 7:06 p.m., cops responded to the Super Deli #7 at 1613 Chapel St., at the intersection with Ellsworth Avenue, regarding a person shot.
Police “secured the crime scene and learned the victim, Richard Eichler, 26, of New Haven, had been brought by private car to the St. Raphael’s campus of Yale-New Haven Hospital.”
Eichler was pronounced dead “a short time later.”
“Witnesses reported the suspect is described as a short black man wearing dark purple pants and a blue sweater.”
Detectives are “in the process of interviewing witnesses and collecting evidence.”
