Sounds like you have some relevant information that the police could use in their investigation of your friend's death. Or, would giving information that would lead to the conviction of the murderer be breaking the "no snitchin'" code that the black community has long promoted (to their own detriment)?

... I bet your life the cops kno more than any of us and still it's no snitching On the next but it's how us black folk act when there's no good loyal cops to protect and serve ... Ok and the police have shot spotter how a shooting that started at 2 end at 4 ? Exactly. live in the inner-city for once and ... No funding no good paying jobs more hybrid busses and layoff = crime and this is a repeat of the crazy late 80s ...

Therefore you do know something. In which case, take that information - no matter how trivial or small you believe it to be - to the police so they can use it to convict the murderer, thereby removing that person from your neighborhood.

Chances are the murderer had previously committed crime (e.g., drugs, assault, robbery, etc.,) but because of the "no snitchin'" mentality that is rife in many New Haven communities, information that could have lead to his arrest months or years ago was blocked from the police. This "no snitchin'" code possibly lead to your friend's death, and could lead to more deaths unless you take all the information you have regarding the murder to the police.

Or, you could allow the cycle to continue by holding onto the "no snitchin'" code. What is it now? "The victim was the 18th black homicide victim this year." It seems that your "no snitchin'" code isn't really working out for you.

Someone leaves a memorial message for their friend and you start berating him for not snitching. What the cops are going to bring his friend back? Stop giving advice based off of information you gleaned from watching Law & Order. If the police had demonstrated they were a valuable asset to the community people would make use of their services. It's not like there's a "no going to the emergency room" code in the community or a "don't call the fire department" ethic. That's because the fire fighters and EMT's don't destroy families, plant evidence, or beat people's asses out in the street.

I agree with you. Some people love to point fingers and blame the police, the community, society or socio-economic status for the violence because it is safe and accepted by some of our members. It's a scapegoat and part of the perpetual problem we face as a community in new haven. There are many other communities much poorer than new haven that do not come close to our amount of violent crime. That should be a red flag.

It's concerning that those that encourage people to do something to stop the violence by suggesting that they provide information to police regarding violent crimes is immediately discarded or condemed as discrimination or
useless. However, when people cannot back up their argument with actual facts in a debate, they resort to the lowest common denominator which is usually race and hatred of law enforcement mixed with rhetoric and propaganda. It gives me a sense of hope that more and more people are straying away from this practice and supporting actual solutions to help stop the plague of violence in our city.

All terrorized and oppressed societies have a "no snitchin" code.
