Man Shot In The Leg

A partially deaf man didn’t hear gunshots. It wasn’t until he felt a stinging in his leg that he realized he’d been shot.

Here’s what happened, according to Hartman:

At 12:07 a.m. on Thursday, police responded to Edgar Street in the Hill on a report of a man shot. They found a man bleeding from a wound to his thigh.

He told the cops he’d been in a second-floor bedroom when he felt a stinging in his leg and realized he’d been shot. He hadn’t heard any gunshots because he’s partially deaf. His wife, in another room, had heard shots. Witnesses told police that as many as eight shots were fired. Three parked cars were hit by bullets.

In other police news, according to Hartman:

Natty Ice And A Gun In A Sock: At 8:12 p.m. on Wednesday, Officers David Zannelli and Paul D’Andrea received a report of a man with a gun. With members of the Shooting Task Force, the cops stopped a 43-year-old man as he got out of his red pickup truck near Shelton Avenue and Hazel Street in Newhallville.

The man and his passenger admitted that they’d been drinking a 40 of Natural Ice and a bottle of New Amsterdam liquor. Police found the beer and liquor, as well as an Iver Johnson .22-caliber pistol, which had been concealed in a sock inside a plastic bag. Cops also recovered several boxes of sundry ammunition.

Cops released the passenger and arrested the driver, a convicted felon, on charges of criminal possession of a firearm, carrying a weapon in a motor vehicle, carrying a pistol without a permit, drinking while operating a motor vehicle, and operating a motor vehicle with a defective windshield.

Sweeney Scores 150 Backpacks For Kids: Hartman released this info about Lt. Rebecca Sweeney’s annual effort to make sure Newhallville kids are ready for school:

For six years, Lt. Rebecca Sweeney, now Downtown’s Top Cop, has lead the Get caught giving” backpack drive in Newhallville. Each year as youngsters get ready to hit the books for another school year, they can do it with a new backpack filled with school supplies.

Money and supplies are donated each year in order to make this growing annual event such a success. This year, 150 supply-filled backpacks were given to eager children. The event was held yesterday at the greater New Haven Literacy Center at Science Park on Winchester Avenue.

Lt. Sweeney said her greatest reward was when a little girl thanked her and called her pretty. She wished to thank the families, friends and colleagues that contributed to the day’s success with special thanks to New Haven Police Officer Brian Goddard, Juvenile Probation Officer Kate Grunning and Police Explorer Jamar Daniels.”
