City managers will get a 2.5 percent pay increase, and a raise each of the next two years, thanks to a new five-year union contract approved Monday night.
The Board of Aldermen voted unanimously to approve the new contract with AFSCME Council 4’s Local 3144, which represents 364 managerial workers (not the mayor’s top appointees).
The five-year contract is retroactive to July 1, 2010. It means the managers will get paid 2.5 percent more in the current year, followed by two 2‑percent raises in the next two years.
The deal also includes changes to the union’s health care plan, including a requirement that workers pay higher premiums. Employee contributions to pension plans will also increase. Click here to read all the details of the new contract.
Ahead of Monday night’s vote, Hill Alderwoman Andrea Jackson-Brooks, the chair of the Finance Committee, told her colleagues that the contract will save the city $691,480.
Aldermen voted unanimously to approve the contract without discussion.
This is great...now when are they going to do something about cutting all the waste that's in the city budget, so we can afford this?
Or are we going to sell some more streets to Yale in the next budget? At three million a pop, maybe that's New Haven's best bet to be financially solvent.
