Meet The New Hassett

The police baton has been passed in the Dwight-Kensington, West River district. It goes to Lt. Ken Blanchard.

Blanchard (pictured) will become the new top cop in that district as of July 22, officials announced Tuesday.

Blanchard succeeds Lt. Ray Hassett, a longtime proactive presence in the neighborhood who retired June 30 after 25 years on the force.

I’ve got big shoes to fill,” said Blanchard, who’s 48 and in his 18th year on the force. He currently serves as commander of the 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. patrol shift.
