Motorcyclist Killed

After he collided with a Volvo SUV, a 31-year-old motorcyclist went into cardiac arrest and died.

Here’s what happened, according to police spokesman Officer Dave Hartman:

At 1:53 p.m. on Monday, police responded to the intersection of Kimberly Avenue and First Street on a report of an accident.

Hamden’s Howard Lee Jones II, riding a 2010 Kawasaki ZX 1000, had collided with a 2003 Volvo XC90 driven by a 34-year-old woman from Cheshire. Jones went over the hood of the SUV. He was wearing a helmet, gloves, and other appropriate riding gear” at the time of the crash, Hartman said.

Emergency workers found Jones in traumatic cardiac arrest” at the scene. He was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

New Haven police have not yet determined which driver may be at fault. Officer Rose Dell said the investigation has just begun: At this point, we’re in the process of collecting measurements and investigating the scene and involved vehicles.”
