An idea born in New Haven is taking off statewide: to build a community foundation focused on African-American advancement.
The foundation has a name: The Prosperity Foundation. It held an inaugural event last month at the Study on Chapel Street. Now it’s taking its act on the road to seek donors large and small and in between throughout Connecticut. The ultimate goal is to grow nationwide.
David Maurrasse (pictured above) — a consultant, professor and author who’s a philanthropy expert — has been hired to build the foundation from the ground up. He came to WNHH radio’s studios to explain the philosophy and the plans for the foundation, during an episode of “Dateline New Haven.”

This sounds like another waste of time.
It would be nice if money actually got spent on food, living expenses, and childcare for very indigent folks, many of whom work. I myself have teamed up with a homeless couple and pitched in with money, references, advice, and furniture. More rich people should do this kind of thing. I dont trust non-profits as much as direct philanthropy. By the way, many so-called philanthropists in town have refused to talk to me or give $$ for the homeless (housing). If they wont talk to me, they wont talk to homeless folks or janitors or waitresses, etc.
