On the borders of accident, here is one of those small gestures that makes the city wondrous. A beastly, but obviously benign, spirit that is upon the tree, but not of it. It apparent eye is the head of the bolt from which the fragment is hung. This is a fraternity of wood, a companionable passage from root to icon.
