After a crash totaled two cars and sent two teens to the hospital, Officer Wayne Bullock calmed an “irate” driver without taking sides.
“I can’t call people liars,” Bullock said. “That’s not my job.”
What his job was at around 4 o’clock Friday afternoon entailed arriving after the fact at a destruction-derby-style crash at Central and Edgewood Avenues.
p(clear). Two teens were driving home north on Central Avenue from Notre Dame High School. David Loustaunau, 32, was driving home in “my baby”—a 2003 Nissan Pathfinder—west on Edgewood Avenue home to Naugatuck from his warehouse job at Harvey Industries in East Haven. The two vehicle smashed into each other in the intersection. The teens’ vehicle flipped over. Both vehicles were crushed.
p(clear). The teens told the cops that Loustaunau ran a red light. Loustaunau said the teens ran the red light.
p(clear).
Without any witnesses at the scene, Officer Bullock recorded both sides’ stories, took control of the scene as ambulance and towing crews arrived. The two teens went to the hospital. Their father, Joel Massey, rushed to the scene after receiving a call at his job at Yale-New Haven Hospital. His sons said they were hurt, but were able to walk around and talk, and seemed OK. An ambulance crew did arrive to transport them to get checked.
p(clear).
Loustaunau said he, too, was injured. His head and shoulder hurt. But he said he was too “irate” to go to the hospital. “My blood is boiling.”
p(clear). “My car. I loved that car!” he remarked as a Tony’s Long Wharf truck prepared to take the totaled mass of metal to a possible resting place. “That was my baby. I love my baby!”

p(clear). Saturday was another work day for Loustaunau. How did he plan to get there? “They’re going to pay for a rental car,” he said of the other family. “They don’t know it yet.”
p(clear). Officer Bullock heard him out. Then he urged him to contact his insurance company. Click on the play arrow at the top of the article to watch Bullock in action, keeping heads cool.
p(clear). Lousaunau asked anyone who may have witnessed the accident to call him at 203-415-0533.

First just for the record, Central ave moves East & West (there is no north) and Edgewood runs North / South (no west).
The corner of Central and Edgewood is dangerous. Situated a block from edgewood school, and a densly populated community of walkers, bicyclist and dogs, the traffic always moves too quickly. This particular intersection often winds up with blinking yellow lights for edgewood and blinking red for central. I’ve witnessed one horrific accident myself just a few months ago. Perhaps the city can spend a few hours monitoring the speeders, and take a break looking to ticket downtown shoppers and diners. just a few hours every once and a while. of course, i’m sure that is asking too much.
And those of you who insist on blaring your crappy music while waiting on that light, you suck.

charlie, once again, wrong as usual.Central is N/S,and Edgewood is E/W.Edgewood is a proper noun, and is always capitalized,as is Central.Densely has two e’s, not one, and bicyclist is singular, whicn negates “densly” Who determines which music is crappy? Actually, you spelled “crappy” correctly! Interesting! Finally, Mr.Westville Traffic Guru, thanks for your"corrections”, just for the record!
