Phyllis Mazziotti’s Century

Contributed Photo

Phyllis Mazziotti isn’t ready for anyone to write her obituary. She just turned 100 and celebrated her milestone birthday with her family at the East Shore Senior Center.

She provided her still-in-progress life story to her daughter, who wrote it down and passed it on. It follows:

I was born on 10/27/13 to Maria & Peter Santino. I grew up in New Haven on Wallace Street before moving to Fair Haven. I was one of 10 children. Our education was as far as the 9th grade; then I went to work.

We lived through many hard times with the war and the Great Depression, but my family always bounced back.

Married my husband Anthony Mazziotti and had three daughters, Marguerite, Marie and Anne.

Settled in Morris Cove, and lived here for 74 years.

My husband had a business in New Haven, which was called TOny’s Tire and Battery, which was on East St. As my children grew up, I took the realm as bookkeeper for my husband’s business.

I am grateful for a wonderful life filled with joy and most of all family.

The advice I can pass on is hard work doesn’t hurt you if it gratifies you and also your family is the root of your happiness. It makes you stay healthy.

I thank the Lord for all the good he has bestowed on me. Also for my family of three daughters, my son-in-law Armand Mauro, Vincent Campagnudo, Lori Matteo, and Jeff Mauro, and my six great-grandchildren, Louis, Lauren, Natalie, Vincent, Antonio, and Nicholas.
