After four years of investigation, police detectives arrested a man for the murder of Albert Jenkins in May 2011.
According to a police release, Detective Michael Wuchek secured an arrest warrant for the alleged shooter Wednesday, charging him with murder, criminal possession of a firearm and carrying a pistol without a permit.
Police will provide more information on the case and investigation at an 11 a.m. press event at their Union Avenue headquarters June 1.
Albert Jenkins died in the hospital after being shot in the face and chest in the early morning hours of May 2, 2011. He was 40 years old. Police found him at Middletown Avenue and Cranston Street near Poor John’s Pub, when they were called to investigate reported gunfire. Last summer the department offered a $50,000 reward for information leading to the killer’s arrest.
The alleged shooter has prior convictions for narcotics and assault crimes, as well as a federal firearms conviction. New Haven police and members of the U.S. Marshals Task Force took him into custody Wednesday; he appeared in Superior Court Thursday and is being held on a $1 million bond.
Great Job by the police. I still don't understand why you don't name a low life that was arrested for murder and has other convictions. Why not name criminals. poor job nhi
[Ed: A person accused of a crime has not necessarily committed the crime. Sometimes people are found to be innocent of charges. That's why our policy is in most cases not to name a person who is accused of a crime unless the person is a public figure.]
