Police Arrest Citgo Clerk’s Suspected Murderer

Police said they have arrested the 22-year-old man who shot to death Citgo/ Pay Rite Food Store clerk Sanjay Patel during a robbery attempt..

New Haven police and U.S. Marshals arrested the alleged murder suspect at 11:28 a.m. Thursday, according to a police department press release. Members of the New Haven Police Criminal Intelligence Unit, Shooting Task Force and U.S. Marshals executed an arrest warrant on the New Haven man, who has been charged with felony murder, murder, criminal possession of a pistol and first-degree robbery. He is currently in custody at police headquarters.

Warrants will also be served on two other New Haven men in connection with Patel’s murder. One of the men, the suspected driver in Patel’s murder, is already incarcerated in connection with a similar murder in Bridgeport. He will be charged with felony murder and conspiracy to commit first degree robbery. The other man also is incarcerated. He will be charged with felony murder, murder, criminal possession of a pistol and first-degree robbery.

The 39-year-old Patel was murdered during a robbery of the Pay Rite Food Store/Citgo gas station at 262 Forbes Ave. Patel was shot several times during a robbery of the gas station on April 6 and died from his wounds. He had tried to fight off the attackers.
