Police found the city’s sixth homicide victim of the year behind the wheel of a running car early Saturday morning.
The killing was reported by a friend of the victim, who was also shot.
Here’s what happened, according to police spokesman Officer Joe Avery:
At 3:40 a.m. on Saturday, police responded to the Hospital of Saint Raphael on a report of a shooting victim. A 27-year-old man had run to the hospital after being shot in the arm and wrist on Garden Street in the Dwight/Kensington neighborhood. His wounds were not life-threatening. The victim told police he and his friend were shot while in a car on Garden Street between Edgewood Avenue and Elm Street.
At the scene of the shooting, police found a running vehicle against a fence in Garden Street Park, part of Kensington Square. In the driver’s seat was an unidentified man with gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene, becoming the city’s sixth homicide victim of 2010.
Police are asking that anyone with information about this incident contact the Major Crimes Unit at (203) 946 6304 or call the department’s anonymous tip line at (203) 946 6296.

Well another murder in the city, but crime is down, the city is safer then ever. When will the police solve a shooting, or is it there are more and more shootings of expendable citizens (not yale connected) the police can make more and more money no one holds them accountable ,maybe the residents need to take a hint from yale bring in the state police and the feds to get it done

march 13th and six homicides wow!! traffic stops are not helping solve homicides. We need more cops on the street who know their community and can get information to the detectives who can’t get the info.

hey,..resident of new haven,..perhaps you would like to come out with us for a shift or two,...then maybe,....just maybe it might open your eyes as to what we are up against,....we need a hug overhaul in our judicial system,..not to mention that our (cops) hands are tied when it comes to enforcing the law,..if the public,...that’s you mr. citizen would allow us to be proactive,...then perhaps,.we could make a difference,...until then,...don’t judge us until you walk in our shoes,..!!!!!

DKR, strange that you are using the same defense as the mayor, blame the state; blame the courts blame the corrections dept. You take it further and now blame the citizens for preventing police work to be done. As far as coming out with you for a shift how about the reverse you live in the city, I’m sure you don’t as a majority o f the police don’t. You live with the constant fear of becoming a victim, you fear for your child everyday at the city schools and just walking the streets. How about you living in this one sided city that there seems to be no accountability except what the mayors wants or sidesteps, how about you living here in the inner city in despair. Take some of the responsibility police, both officers and bosses. Yes there are big problems with the laws, state and federal government and the community as a whole , but can the New Haven Police Department truly say they are giving anywhere near 100 percent. If the city were a private enterprise wouldn’t the people in control be disgusted and bring in outside control The State Police or the FBI,
