Two redevelopment projects in the city have inched closer to completion after receiving a boost from state-funded grants.
The Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD) has awarded the grants for the rehabilitation of an historic Winchester Repeating Arms facility and the new construction at the Farnam Courts public housing complex. The DECD decision will allow the city to “create housing and improve the lives of many New Haven residents,” Mayor Toni Harp said in a press release.
A $4,000,000 grant will help the Science Park Development Corporation continue the environmental remediation of the abandoned arms factory in Newhallville, which the private Forest City Residential Group is currently transforming into 200 lofts and apartments. The Glendower Group, a housing authority affiliate, received a $833,386 loan to develop 32 new residential and commercial units at Farman Courts on Grand Avenue.
