Firefighter Relay Reaches New Haven

Six New Haven Fire Department recruits (pictured) ran in Sunday’s Tommy Fund Firefighter Relay in Westville. The runners carried a 50-foot-long fire hose inscribed with the names of New Haven firefighters who have perished in the line of duty.

The relay, which spans from New Britain to New Haven, began at 3:30 a.m. and continued non-stop until runners reached the Connecticut Tennis Center at Yale for a family day.

The Tommy Fund is a not-for-profit organization that seeks to offer medical and educational support to children with cancer and their families. It was started over 60 years ago by the New Britain Fire Department.
