Exonerated Prisoner Passes

Does the "independent" know something others don't? This man was an admitted criminal. Even IF he did not kill the bottega owner; who knows how many lives were protected by putting this con behind bars. But, we DONT know and neither does NHI, so stop with the "Unrelenting Prosecutor" line.

Cartman, do you know something Superior Court Judge Stanley Fuger did not know? How about if prosecutors stop trying to build careers on the lives of innocent people? If this man committed other crimes, it is incumbent upon the judicial system to try him for those crimes. We are supposed to be living in a democracy, not in an oppressive and tyrannical communist system. You don't put people in prison for 80 years, or execute innocent people (as was allegedly done in Georgia with Troy Davis) based upon guess work, lies by those who made deals with the prosecutors, or because these people might have done other wrongs for which they have not been charged.

Of course, the flipside of what you are saying would be to say - so many innocent black men have served time in prison, and been prosecuted and persecuted by racist, over-jealous prosecutors and juries that if, in fact, one black man was not prosecuted for a crime he actually did, it is poetic justice. How would you like that? Although there is double-jeopardy in our system, OJ Simpson is in prison on a trumped up gun charge because they could not get him on murder. Justice is supposed to be blind; however, the history of these United States has proven otherwise. Ask all of the poor blacks, Hispanics and other minorities who have suffered grave injustices.

I am GLAD the NHI exists. It might not always get everything exactly right, but it is not malicious in its reporting; it strives to find the truth even when it is nuanced, and it serves the community well; that is much more than I can say for the alternatives.

What sad news. I do not live in New Haven anymore, but am still closely following the case of Taylor and Gould. I know George and all his family. I finally got to meet Ron after they were released in 2010. People who don't know the individuals or the case should not be making negative comments. Ron did not have a criminal record. He might have gotten out of the murder conviction by claiming that George did it, but he was too honest for that. They weren't there and didn't kill anyone, and neither one of them ever wavered from that position. From everything I know about the first Habeas trial, these men already proved that they are innocent of the murder. The prosecutors were unable to accept the truth, thereby failing the public by not going after the actual killer. At least they allowed Ron to wait for the second trial at home, because he was so ill. But Ron deserved to have a 100% exoneration before he passed away. I am glad he did get to spend his last year and a half at home with his wife, who stuck by him all those years he was in prison. When George and the lawyers prove their innocence once and for all at the next Habeas trial, I hope Ron will be watching.

Cartman, you are making assumptions based on what? You do not know this man. I did. And he was a good man that was loved by everyone that knew him. ...

Let's be respectful but let's not also mistakenly put a halo on Taylor's head either. The murder conviction controversy aside, it is a fact that at the time he was arrested for murder, Taylor was an admitted street robber, who terrorized innocent people by confronting them on the street and robbing them. People couldn't enjoy the streets of New Haven without fear because of Taylor and other criminals like him. Let's not forget that part of his life, just because he has now died.
