The Bernie Sanders campaign has confirmed that the Democratic presidential candidate will appear Sunday at a “A Future to Believe in New Haven Rally” featuring musician Michael Stipe, on the New Haven Green beginning at 7 p.m.
“This is free and open to the public, but RSVPs are strongly encouraged,” a campaign press release stated.
“Admission is first come, first served. For security reasons, please do not bring bags and limit what you bring to small, personal items like keys and cell phones. Weapons, sharp objects, chairs, and signs or banners on sticks will not be allowed through security. Limited street parking available. Carpooling or public transportation is strongly encouraged.”
Interested people can RSVP for the rally here.
Though the rally technically begins Sunday at 7 p.m. people are encouraged to come early. Security will begin allowing people on the Green at 4 p.m. The city announced that the following streets will be closed at 2 p.m. on Sunday in preparation for the event:
1. Temple Street — Wall Street to Chapel Street
2. Elm Street – College Street to Church Street
3. Church Street- Chapel Street to Elm Street
No parking will be permitted from 2 p.m. until the conclusion of the event:
1. On the south side of Elm Street between Temple Street and Church Street
2. On the west side of Church Street between Chapel Street and Elm Street.
Leave it to the New Haven pols and police to restrict poor people and minorities from a public and politically left event. They pulled this shit years ago when the green was rented for a day by the Green Party and kept us off the space we paid for, for hours claiming a "bomb scare", a small paper lunch bag left on the courthouse stairs. I'm still pissed although Esserman wasn't the chief then.
This should be open to anybody and all. My husband RSVP'd me but I'll be damned if I'm gonna show up much before 7P, if then. I went to a wide open event in Durham, NH at the state Univ. Yeah there were a million cops but they let this crazy anarchist waltz right in. I even tried to pick up a pretty cop.
