A 39-year-old man is in the hospital in critical condition after someone shot him in the lower back around 2:30 a.m. at the Farnam Courts housing development’s basketball courts.

The victim, a convicted felon currently on parole and with a history of weapons and drug offenses, tried to “discard a gun holster from his waistband” as he was transported to an ambulance at the scene, according to police spokesman Officer David Hartman.

Hartman reported that the victim “was uncooperative and wouldn’t speak with police. He has undergone surgery and is in critical condition. Detectives from the department’s Major Crimes Division and Bureau of Investigation responded to the scene and were speaking to potential witnesses and collecting evidence of the crime. There are no suspects.” Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call detectives at (203) 946-6304.
