Sinister Stabbing Or Seafood Mishap?

A man said he fell on his knife while cleaning fish at his home, but later claimed a more criminal cause of injury.

Police were summoned to Yale-New Haven Hospital at 5:47 p.m. on Sunday after staff reported a patient who’d sustained a non-life threatening stab wound to his torso, according to a report from police spokesman David Hartman.

He told officers he had been drinking and cleaning fish at his home. He said he passed out and fell on the knife. Later, the victim changed his story, saying that he’d been jumped” somewhere in the Goffe Street public housing area. Police are investigating.

It is one of a few incidents police encountered over the weekend. On Saturday, officers were dispatched to a reported assault in the area of 68 Sylvan Avenue. They found a 34-year-old victim semi-conscious, injuries to his face. He was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries, including a broken jaw.

Witnesses told police that the victim had repeatedly tried getting in cars that didn’t belong to him. Although none would describe the victim’s assailant, they suggested he or they were probably attendees at a nearby house party.

Later in the weekend, on Sunday, a delivery man for Brick Oven Pizza was robbed at gunpoint after a run to a Porter Street home. The victim told Officers at 1:20 a.m. that he was delivering food to 100 Porter St. He said a man was waiting in the driveway when he pulled up. When he handed over some of the food, the man said he didn’t have any money.

When the victim turned around, two others emerged from the open garage. One had a pistol. The victim, realizing his day was getting worse, retreated to his car and drove off. Unfortunately he was heading toward a dead end. With the robbers in pursuit, the victim got out, locked the car up and ran away.

He returned once the coast was clear to find his window smashed and the remainder of the delivery order gone. The perps,” said Hartman’s release, weren’t described.”
