Slingshot Driver Charged With Vehicular Homicide

Police arrested a 36-year-old Hamden man in connection with a fatal crash back in July.

On that day the man was driving a three-wheeled Polaris Slingshot motorcycle near the high-speed intersection of West Park Avenue and Whalley Avenue at 3:06 a.m.

He swerved to avoid hitting another vehicle, landing onto the sidewalk, where he then struck a cement wall, and then a tree that grew from this wall,” according to a release by Detective Sgt. Rose J. Dell, who oversaw the investigation. ” Upon impact with the tree, the motorcycle rolled over. The front seat passenger [in the Slingshot motorcycle], Kevin Lee Lewis, died as a result of the injuries he sustained in the crash.”

The driver’s actions were the sole cause” of Lewis’s death, police concluded. They charged the driver with negligent homicide with a motor vehicle and with failure to drive in the proper lane.
