Police arrested a 33-year-old homeless man and charged him with stabbing another man at the Community Soup Kitchen.
The stabbing was reported just before 12:30 p.m. Thursday. Here’s what happened, according to police spokesman Officer David Hartman:
The two men got into an argument in the Community Soup Kitchen lunch at 84 Broadway.
“The argument escalated to a fist fight.” The homeless man “produced a knife” and stabbed the victim, who is 38, “in the chest and neck.”
Police broadcast a description of the attacker. As the suspect walked past the Yale police headquarters on Ashmun Street, an officer grabbed him. Witnesses then identified him as the assailant. Police charged him with first-degree assault.
The victim was “rushed to surgery” at Yale-New Haven Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
