Two Nabbed In Armed Robbery; Taurus Sees More Trouble

Two young men who allegedly held up, and fired shots at, a victim on Winchester Avenue were arrested this weekend.

Read on for details, according to police spokesman Officer Joe Avery.

A victim was walking out of 201 Winchester Ave. Sunday at 8:19 p.m. when he was robbed of his wallet by four men. One of the robbers fired shots at him during the robbery. Officers stopped two men on Compton Street. They linked them back to the robbery and arrested the two— one, aged 17, the other aged 25. The victim’s wallet was found on Compton Street, too.

Taurus Trouble

The mayor and police chief leapt to condemn the troubled Taurus Caf√© after another shooting near the club this weekend.

At 3:05 a.m. Saturday, a 24-year-old man was shot in the shoulder as he was leaving the club at 520 Winchester Avenue.

Mr. Livingston has demonstrated yet again that he cannot control circumstances on his property and that the Taurus Caf√© presents a threat to the neighborhood,” said Mayor John DeStefano in a press statement that sent out later that day.

The city contends Taurus owner Larry Livingston is flaunting zoning laws by continuing to keep the club open after hours despite orders to stop doing so. The club lost its liquor license in June for violation of labor laws. Livingston was arrested Oct. 5 for allegedly refusing to obey a zoning cease and desist order for operating an after-hours establishment.

Police Chief Cisco Ortiz, furious and outraged,” said he was interested in engaging the State’s Attorney to deal with his habitual flaunting of the law.”

Needlepoint

A man told police he was waiting for the train station to open at 5:18 a.m. Saturday at 98 Union Ave. when a man approached, stole $30, and stabbed him with a needle.

Hit-And-Run

Police are still seeking public assistance in tracking down the driver who left a Yale freshman with a fractured skull in a hit-and-run on Elm and York Streets at 1:05 a.m. Sunday. The student was a Yale women’s lacrosse player with a twin sister — click here to read the Yale Daily’s story.

Pizza Theft

A pizza delivery driver was driving past 92 Anita St. at 9 p.m. Sunday when three masked boys, in their early teens, approached, bearing a revolver and a shotgun. They robbed him of the pizza and money, according to Avery.
